Mercy Kids
We love our children at Mercy, and regard them as “Covenant Children” who stand in line for the blessings of God’s covenant of grace offered to them in the Gospel. God tells us in Deuteronomy that parents bear the primary responsibility to disciple their kids, teaching them God’s covenant. God’s family, the Church, also bears this responsibility especially in helping parents “make disciples” of their own children. 1 Corinthians 7:14 says “For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy.” If the Bible calls them “holy”, we know they are very special to Him. Holy means separate, set aside for special use. In the Old Testament, God told Abraham in Genesis 17 to circumcise Isaac, giving him the covenant sign, because he was set aside for holy use to bring forth a new nation and the lineage of Christ! At baptism, we commit ourselves to pray and assist these parents in raising their covenant children “in the Lord”. Jesus said, “you must be born again”, therefore we pray for our covenant children at Mercy to really know Christ at an early age and to make Him known! As we parents continue to grow in Christ, we will be enabled to make Christ known to them, by teaching and living our broken lives before them.
