The Son and the Sign

At the time of Jesus’ incarnation, the world was entering into the Pax Romana, an extended period of secular flourishing in the Roman Empire under the Caesars who were considered to be god. However just at this time, after 400 years of silence from God since the last prophets of the Old Testament, our royal Prince of Peace took on flesh to usher in the New Covenant in the most unexpected way, by using small, weak, broken things for his glory.
